Sheffield - eine Industriestadt im Herzen Großbritanniens. Hier schlägt das Herz der britischen Stahlindustrie. Überall rußige Industrieanlagen, qualmende Schlote, verstopfte Straßen zur Rush Hour, eine halbe Million Menschen leben und arbeiten auf engstem Raum, auch das Paar Ruth und Jimmy ist hier zu Hause. Ruth ist schwanger, die beiden schmieden Hochzeitspläne. Da kommen Meldungen von Scharmützeln im Persischen Golf zwischen Amerikanern und Sowjets. Die Lage spitzt sich in den nächsten Wochen weiter zu. Als über der Nordsee die ersten atomaren Explosionen erfolgen, heulen bereits die Sirenen in Sheffield. Eine Stadt gerät in Panik, der Bürgermeisterstab agiert in einem Keller hilflos. Ein großer Atompilz steht am Himmel... Mischung aus Spielfilm und Dokumentation, in der nicht nur die Tage nach der atomaren Katastrophe, sondern vor allem die Langzeitwirkung in drastischen Bildern beschrieben wird.

Once again, I struggled to understand the British English. At least this time, I didn't really need to. Not a word needed to be spoken to convey the very real horror we might all be subjected to. Now, closer to that armageddon than ever before in our history. I just hope I die in the initial blast. The after is actually worse than the blast itself. God help us all.
