The King of Comedy
Rupert Pupkin hat einen Traum: Er will als Entertainer Karriere machen. Er ist besessen von der Vorstellung, einmal in der Show seines Idols, Jerry Langford aufzutreten. Pupkin wählt den direkten Weg, um an sein Ziel zu kommen. Dreist quetscht er sich aus einer Menschenmasse ins Auto von Jerry Langford. Er preist sich mit dem Ausspruch an: ‘Ich bin Dynamit!’ Langford entgegnet dem zudringlichen Fan, dass er, wenn er bei ihm in der Show auftreten wolle, den normalen Weg gehen solle. Pupkin solle sich sich erst einmal über kleinere Theater empfehlen und und von unten hocharbeiten. Doch Pupkin möchte den direkten Weg gehen. Letzendlich gelingt es ihm, dass Langford ihm zusichert, seine Probeaufnahmen anzuhören. Abgespeist mit dieser Floskel, steigt Rupert Pupkin zufrieden an der nächsten Straßenecke aus. Als Pupkins am nächsten Tag bei Langford im Büro erscheint, wird er allerdings abgewissen. Doch Rupert Pupkin gibt nicht auf…

A bit long-winded, but undoubtedly a very good movie. 'The King of Comedy' has a sturdy Robert De Niro lead performance, as well as solid support from Jerry Lewis and Sandra Bernhard.
