Briony ist 13 Jahre alt, als sie aus Angst ihre Schwester Cecilia an den hübschen Sohn des Hausverwalters zu verlieren, diesen der Vergewaltigung an einer ihrer Cousinen beschuldigt. Robbie wird daraufhin zu einer Gefängnisstrafe verurteilt. Die Liebe zwischen ihm und Brionys Schwester überdauert diese Zeit. Beide leben erst Jahre später das Leben, dass sie sich in ihrer Jugend erträumt hatten. Briony arbeitet mittlerweile als Krankenschwester. Angetrieben von ihrem schlechten Gewissen möchte sie ihrer Schwester endlich die Wahrheit über das erzählen, was sie damals wirklich gesehen hat.

Absolutely amazing and well acted drama that I've seen a few times going back to 2007 (I think in the theater). Keira Knightley and James McAvoy shared great chemistry in the few scenes they had together and Saoirse Ronan was amazing (earning her an Academy Award nomination).
