Nigel James Dermot Samuel Neill, KNZM, OBE, besser als Sam Neill bekannt, war ein neuseeländischer Schauspieler, Regisseur, Drehbuchautor und Winzer. Er begann früh, als Schauspieler zu arbeiten, und war für die Zealand National Film Unit sechs Jahre lang als Regisseur und Drehbuchautor tätig. Populär wurde er durch Filme wie Jagd auf Roter Oktober (Tom Clancy Buchverfilmung, 1990), Das Piano (1993), Jurassic Park (1993) oder Merlin (1998).
