Patton, generale d'acciaio
Duramente sconfitte a Kasserine, in Tunisia, nel loro primo scontro con l'"Africa Korps" di Rommel, le forze americane si rifanno allorché il comando della VII Armata viene assunto dal generale George S. Patton. Militare di carriera e più ancora di vocazione, fanatico, arrogante e volgare, ma anche abile e valoroso comandante, Patton, dopo aver conquistato la Sicilia, rivaleggiando con Montgomery, subisce un'eclissi temporanea per aver schiaffeggiato come vigliacco un soldato colto da una crisi nervosa. Sbarcati gli alleati in Normandia, viene affidato a Patton il comando della III Armata, con la quale, vinta la cruenta battaglia di Bastogne, e conquistate le Ardenne, si spinge fin nel centro della Germania.
