Il professor Oliver Lindenbrook scopre, per puro caso, una pietra lavica all'interno della quale si cela un misterioso messaggio lasciato decenni prima da un famoso scienziato, Arne Saknussem, contenente le indicazioni per raggiungere il centro della Terra.
