Cuori nel deserto
Vivien è una ricca borghese east-coast, che non si è mai lasciata andare a passioni, represse attraverso un autocontrollo e un rigore costante, e che vive adesso una profonda crisi di valori; Cay passa con disinvoltura da amante ad amante, come Gwen e Sliver, ed è invece spregiudicata, irriverente, sboccata, ma anche tenera e genuina. Attorno a loro, tra le altre donne, spicca la figura di Frances, che ha con la figliastra un rapporto complesso e sfaccettato, non immune da gelosia, e che comunque è molto legata a lei. Poco alla volta Cay riesce a far breccia nel cuore di Vivien, venuta a Reno soprattutto per dimenticare, e perciò refrattaria a nuove amicizie e volutamente appartatasi. Vivien è scossa nel constatare il mutamento che avviene in lei e fatica ad accettarlo.
