Mr. Smith va a Washington
Alla morte di un senatore, Jefferson Smith viene affiancato a Joseph Paine che è capo di una macchina politica corrotta. Con Saunders come segretaria di Jeff, Paine spera di ottenere l'approvazione della costruzione di una diga inutile, facendo concentrare Smith su un campo di boy scout. Quando Saunders s'innamora di Jeff, lui minaccia di esporre la truffa, ma viene incastrato da Paine. Con un discorso eroico ed estenuante però, Jeff induce la confessione di Paine e diventa un eroe nazionale e marito di Saunders.
