Il film si divide in due parti molto definite: l'adolescenza e la maturità di quattro amici, Lorenzo Carcaterra, chiamato "Shakes", Michael Sullivan, John Reilly e Tommy Marcano che vivono ad Hell's Kitchen, una zona all'epoca malfamata di New York, sita nella Midtown West di Manhattan e, temporalmente, tra la metà degli anni sessanta e l'inizio degli anni ottanta.

Been a very long time since I last watched this and seeing it again it's a well acted movie that doesn't quite hit the emotional punch despite the very dark story (compare that with something like Mystic River). Still a very good movie with an amazing cast. **4/5**
