Lee, membro del Tempio Shaolin e maestro nelle arti marziali, viene reclutato da un agente della polizia inglese per indagare sui presunti traffici illeciti (di uomini e droga) di un certo Mr. Han. Mr. Han e' un uomo molto ricco, ex membro del Tempio Shaolin, ora corrotto e reietto; questi, ogni tre anni, organizza sulla propria isola un torneo di arti marziali, cui Lee partecipera' sotto copertura per indagare sui traffici dell'uomo, e per vendicare la morte della sorella, assassinata tempo addietro da una guardia dello stesso Han, O'Hara. Partecipano al torneo altri due contendenti americani, John Roper e Kelly Williams, due ex commilitoni che hanno combattuto assieme in Vietnam. Il primo e' in fuga per aver contratto debiti di gioco con la mafia; il secondo e' vittima di un episodio di razzismo, perpetrato ai suoi danni da un poliziotto.
