10 yaşındaki oğlu Gene ile bir karavanda yaşayan Çek göçmeni Selma Jezkova kalıtsal bir hastalık yüzünden kör olmak üzeredir. Bu hastalığını oğlunu da etkileyeceğini bilen Selma, çelik fabrikasında canla başla çalışarak biriktirdiği parayla oğlunu ameliyat ettirme arzusu içerisindedir. Ancak gelişen olaylar Selma'yı işin içinden çıkamaz hale getirir.
