四集新剧《城与城》根据China Miéville的同名科幻小说改编，故事描述一个外国女学生被肢解的尸体在贝斯厄尔城（Besźel）的大街上被人发现，警方对此展开调查。他们发现死者是美国人，正在厄尔科马城（Ul Qoma）的大学读书，整个事件背后隐藏着非常黑暗的、致命的秘密。死者卷入了贝斯厄尔城与临近的厄尔科马城之间的「政治动乱」——这两座城市禁止市民相互接触，禁止他们跨越边界，更禁止他们了解对方的信仰。两座城市的市民从小都要接受特殊训练，不得「看见」对方，也不得「感知」对方。本质而言，他们必须当对方的城市不存在。为了侦破悬案，主管侦探Tyador Borlú必须小心应对更多的暴力谋杀事件，并且亲自跨越边界，但这是非常禁忌的事情。与此同时，Borlú的妻子Kathynia神秘失踪了。
