Sfida all'O.K. Corral
Nel 1880 a Tombstone, lo sceriffo Wyatt Earp, aiutato dai due fratelli e dall'amico medico Doc Holliday, deve affrontare in un duello all'ultimo sangue la feroce banda dei Clanton. È uno dei tanti western – e, forse, il più vicino alla realtà storica – che rievocano la celebre sparatoria. I risultati non corrispondono sempre alle ambizioni e c'è, nella sceneggiatura di Leon Uris, qualche eccesso melodrammatico in cui si avverte lo sforzo di nobilitare la materia, poco adatta al robusto mestiere senza inventiva di J. Sturges. Ambientazione suggestiva, buon uso tattico dello spazio e una costante ombra di morte sull'azione e sui personaggi, tutti ben serviti dagli interpreti. La bella canzone dell'inizio è cantata da Frankie Laine.
